Facilities

Please see a list of our glamping facilities below.

Heart of the Wye is a small site and we have designed our site to limit impact on the environment while keeping our facilities fresh, modern and convenient.

"The comforts of life's essentials -- food, fire and friendships..." Julia Child

There are many ways to enjoy cooking and eating at the campsite. Including firepits, a kitchen area and even an onsite gourmet restaurant.

Each tent come with its own BBQ for easy outdoor cooking and fire pit for cooking on, relaxing and warming up near or telling stories around.

Hot showers are a luxury we couldn't do with out! At Heart of the Wye, we have 2 shower huts set in the picturesque orchard, plus one family sized shower and washroom up by the kitchen building.

Although our tents are off-grid, fear not!  Each tent comes equipped with a battery for lighting and charging.  There are also additional charging points in the kitchen.

Loos with a view!

The toilets facilities at the campsite are certainly unique.  Not just your standard composting toilets, our state of the art loos integrate waterless flush technology.

There is onsite parking for up to 2 cars per tent.  Parking is accessed via a private track and is situated in the field next to the camping field.  The longest walk from car to tent is less than 70m.

Off Grid Gourmet

We are extremely fortunate to have one of Hay on Wye's top eateries overlooking our orchard.

Watch the sun set behind the apple trees while chef Hugh Sawyer presents you with a delicious banquet style feast.  Don't just take my word for it, check out the 5.0 start reviews on trip advisor!

People come from all over the globe to eat here and as such the supper club can book up very quickly so it is worth checking availability ahead of your stay.

Showers

After a day canoeing on the river, walking through the Brecon Beacons or just waking up from a deep sleep, there is nothing better than getting into a hot shower.  You will have a choice of one of our 2 "outdoor" showers (pictured) set in the orchard, or our larger indoor shower, perfect for parents with small children.

Loos

It is important to us to keep the site as eco friendly as we can, while still providing a comfortable experience for our guests.

The Loos at Heart of the Wye are unlike any compost loo around.  The toilet itself is very similar to a normal, high quality, household flush toilet, however: a biodegradable liner sitting inside the toilet bowl safely and hygienically captures waste, this is sealed and pulled through to a barrel below with each flush.  This seals away germs and odours, leaving a clean bowl every time.  Amazing.

Plus...the view from our loos is pretty special too!

Electric

There is no electricity running to the camping field.  Guests will have a large portable battery in their tent which will provide lighting and the opportunity to charge your phone and other devices.  Plug sockets are also available in the campers kitchen.

We have provided each tent with a camp lantern which can be moved around as needed, however, we recommend bringing a torch or lantern for walking around the site in the evening.

Meadow

Wifi

There is no WIFI access on the site, however, we find that the mobile reception in the field and kitchen is fantastic.  One of the many benefits of being on the top of a hill!

Green practice

At Heart of the Wye we are committed to improving our sustainable practice, reducing our waste and create a positive impact on our environment.

  • Reducing/striving to eliminate our use of single use plastic.

  • Encouraging recycling at our site.

  • Our toilet systems incorporate biodegradable waterless flush technology

  • Working with other local businesses providing local food and drink options to our guests.

  • We keep colonies of bees here and work with bee keeping organisations through out the Wye Valley and surrounding areas.

  • All of our electricity is offset through the use of a green energy supplier.
