Our Commitment

At Heart of the Wye we value diversity, equality and inclusion.

Below is information about our facilities and services to help you decide whether Heart of the Wye is suitable for your individual needs. If you require any further information before booking, please feel free to get in touch.

We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all guests, and aim to support individual access needs wherever reasonably possible within our natural rural setting.

As a rural glamping site, some areas include uneven ground, natural terrain, and low lighting conditions. We aim to communicate these features clearly so guests can make informed decisions about their stay.

Hearing accessibility

Staff aim to communicate clearly, use plain language, face guests when speaking, and are happy to repeat or rephrase information if needed.

Quiet areas are available where possible to support easier communication during check-in and site tours, and quiet hours are observed overnight for guests who are sensitive to noise.

Important information, including emergency procedures and site guidance, is available in writing in the welcome booklet.

Safety procedures and emergency information are clearly signposted around the site.

Visual accessibility

Large print or digital information guides are available on request, and guests receive a verbal tour of the site on arrival, including emergency procedures and meeting points.

Staff are happy to provide verbal guidance and descriptions around the site where needed, and guests are welcome to request assistance when moving around the site, particularly after dark.

Solar lanterns and small lights are used to help mark paths and key hazards such as ropes, steps, uneven ground, and natural terrain. As the site is located near a dark sky reserve, lighting is intentionally kept low in places and guests are strongly encouraged to bring a torch for moving around the site after dark.

Tents are equipped with a bedside lamp for additional lighting.

Guide dogs and support dogs are welcome in all tents.

Other important information

We operate a strict no tolerance policy on abusive or disorderly behaviour towards staff and other guests.

Noise will be kept to a minimum after 10pm and quiet after 11pm.

Further information on policies and guides can be found at the bottom of our website under Heart of the Wye Terms and Conditions.

Pathways Around the Site

Around the Site

  • Driving access to the camping site is via a long private drive through a field along uneven grass terrain and may not be suitable for all vehicles. Alternative parking behind the main house can be arranged where needed.

  • The car park is located in the field adjoining the camping area, although walking distances vary between accommodations and facilities. If you are unsure which accommodation may best suit your needs, please contact us before booking. Assistance with luggage or a trolley can be provided on arrival where possible.

  • Additional parking is available at the top of the campsite beside the kitchen and lounge area behind our home.

  • The main camping field is sloped and consists of natural, uneven grass terrain. Pathways around the site are a mixture of mown grass, woodchip, and wooden decking treated with non-slip stain.

  • Some pathways leading to facilities, including the toilets, showers, and kitchen area, are fairly steep in places and may become slippery during wet weather.

  • Due to the natural rural setting, there are no paved pathways and some areas may be unsuitable for wheelchairs or guests with limited mobility.

  • Lighting around the site is intentionally kept low to preserve the dark sky environment. Solar lighting is used to help mark key pathways and hazards, but guests are strongly encouraged to bring a torch for moving around the site after dark.

  • Our home is located adjacent to the campsite and guests can request assistance if needed. A ground-level doorbell is available, and contact telephone numbers are provided in all accommodations and on our website for urgent assistance.

Toilets and Showers

Toilet and Shower Access

  • The site includes three toilets and three shower facilities. Two toilets and two shower cubicles are compact in size, measuring approximately 90cm x 90cm.

  • An additional indoor shower room provides a larger changing space suitable for families with young children, alongside a standard-sized shower enclosure and a larger toilet facility converted from an outbuilding.

  • All toilet and shower facilities include step access of varying heights. Photographs of the facilities and step access are provided where possible to help guests assess suitability before booking.

  • Toilet and shower facilities are accessed via outdoor pathways made up of mown grass, woodchip, and wooden decking with some uneven ground due to the natural rural setting.

  • Lighting around the facilities is intentionally kept low in keeping with the dark sky environment. Solar lighting is provided inside toilet and shower areas to support visibility, and some areas also include mains-powered lighting.

  • Guests are strongly encouraged to bring a torch for moving around the site after dark.

Shared Areas

Communal Shared Areas

  • Access to the kitchen is via a small ramp leading onto the decking area. The ramp has a non-slip surface, and there is a small step of less than 10cm into the kitchen.

  • The kitchen area is spacious, with room to move around between preparation areas, and includes indoor table and chair seating as well as outdoor picnic bench seating on the decking.

  • Access to the games room is via a gentle slope, with mostly level access and a very small step of less than 10cm at the entrances. The room can be accessed through two separate doorways, one near the pool table area and one near the indoor seating area.

  • Additional outdoor seating is available on the decking outside the games room. From this area, a small number of lit steps lead down towards the toilet facilities.

  • Lighting in the kitchen is automatic and switches on when entering the room. The games room has a mixture of softer side lighting and mains overhead lighting which guests can adjust as needed.

The Yurts

Yurt Accommodation

  • All yurts are built on raised wooden platforms with step access. Each yurt has approximately two to three steps leading up to the entrance. Step heights and surfaces may vary slightly, but are generally around 23cm high.

  • Solar lighting is positioned around the yurt steps to help visibility at night, however lighting levels are intentionally kept low in keeping with the dark sky environment. Guests are strongly encouraged to use a torch or lantern when moving around the site after dark.

  • Each yurt includes a bedside lamp powered via the charging facilities provided, along with a portable lantern-style light which can be moved around the accommodation as needed.

  • Yurts accommodate a maximum of four guests. Double beds are standard size at approximately 137cm wide by 190cm long. Additional beds are small fold-out single beds measuring approximately 70cm wide by 186cm long.

  • We are happy to remove or rearrange furniture within the yurt interiors where reasonably possible to help improve accessibility or movement within the space.

  • Duvets and pillows are made from synthetic materials. While we take care with cleaning, we cannot guarantee accommodations are free from pet hair as cats and dogs live within our family home on site.

  • Kitchenette areas are positioned directly beside each yurt for convenient access.

  • Wood-burning stoves are provided within the yurts. Written safety guidance is included within the accommodation and staff are happy to talk through safe operation if needed.

  • Each yurt contains similar furniture and facilities, although layouts and furnishings may vary slightly between accommodations. Further photographs and details can be found on our website.

  • Outdoor seating is provided directly outside each yurt, as well as additional seating on the grass area nearby.

We hope the information above helps guests understand the layout and facilities available across the site. As every guest’s needs are different, we are always happy to answer further questions where possible before your stay and will do our best to support individual accessibility requirements within our rural setting. We are committed to continually improving inclusivity and accessibility at Heart of the Wye and welcome all feedback from guests.
